Took many a beating at Taconic, playing golf at Wesleyan University, the weak golfing sister of the Little Three (okay, Wes was the weak sister in most every sporting respect, compared with Williams and Amherst). But it was always a pleasure and privilege to be beaten at Taconic. (Thankfully, we played medal back then, so I got to play the whole thing, as opposed to being closed out on 15 or 16). Did manage a 1/2 point in my final match as a collegiate, perhaps the crowning moment of my college golfing career... The bunkering never really stood out back then. Post Hanse, I bet it makes more of an impression now. I'll look forward to going back some day, to see for myself.

As someone who was lucky enough to call Williamstown home for a few years, I had some wonderful memories of Taconic Golf Club while reading this article.

It's a truly magical golf course that was only tarnished for me by being unplayable for 6 months during the cold, white winter. As an Aussie this was tough to take but the many hours I spent on this golf course into the evening summer hours more than made up for it.

Perfect collection of comments about the difference between those who play golf and travel and those who travel and might partake in a golfing experience. Those needing expert reviews of golf courses for golfers need to peruse the Golf Digest and Golf Mag rakings. There's always a great hotel near great courses.

Interestingly you most pertinent comment is almost at the end of your article.

Traditionla golf is about playing and WALKING. Tidewater is UNWALKABLE... it's an excellent collection of spendid holes... but it's not a course.

It looks beautiful! I love the Caribbean hotel that only has three walls and an amazing view on the other side. I don't know if it would be too hot, but it sounds nice.
